Gold Coast Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr Michael Maguire specialises in surgery of the hand and upper limb and the management of sporting injuries.

Michael has a strong interest in minimally invasive surgery of the hand and upper limb. He uses endoscopic and ultrasound guided techniques for treatment of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Cubital Tunnel Syndrome

Dr Maguire is a proponent of "Ultra-Minimally Invasive Surgery" and "WALANT" Surgery techniques. Currently at Maguire Upper Limb we are offering Ultrasound Guided Carpal Tuinnel Release via a 2mm puncture wound in the wrist which enables our patients to return to activities of daily living, sport and work sooner.

Dr Maguire also offers arthroscopic and ultrasound assisted treatment of various shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand conditions including Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis or Common Extensor Origin Tears) and Golfer’s Elbow (Medial Epicondylitis or Common Flexor Origin Tears). Click Here to learn more.

Sporting injuries treated by Dr Maguire include: ACL Injuries / Tears, Hamstring Tears, FAI - Femoroacetabular Impingement of the Hip, Ankle Instability, Fractures, Tendinopathy (Rotator Cuff Tendons, Biceps Tendon, Elbow/Common Extensor Origin, Patellar Tendon, Achilles Tendon) and Fractures.

Dr Maguire completed his medical degree in 1992 at the University of Queensland and worked as a junior doctor in Queensland before moving to NSW to complete his formal orthopaedic training. Michael completed his FRACS (Ortho) in 2006 after four years of both general orthopaedic and hand surgery training.

Following his general orthopaedic training Michael then spent two years in 2007 and 2008 undertaking further subspecialty fellowship training in Upper Limb Surgery in Queensland, Sydney and Melbourne.

Dr Maguire also has a particular interest in the management of all Sports Injuries both of the Upper Limb and Lower Limb and has recently completed his Master of Sports Medicine through the University of Queensland. Types of Sporting Injuries treated by Dr Maguire include but are not limited to:

ACL Injuries / Tears, Hamstring Tears, FAI - Femoroacetabular Impingement of the Hip, Hip Labral Tears, Knee injuries (including meniscal tears), Ankle Instability, Tendinopathy (Rotator Cuff Tendons, Biceps Tendon, Elbow/Common Extensor Origin, Patellar Tendon, Achilles Tendon) and Fractures (Upper and Lower Limb).

Dr Maguire has published articles in international journals and regularly travels internationally to further his Upper Limb Surgery and Sports Medicine training.
