Gold Coast shoulder surgeon Dr Michael Maguire runs an Acute Shoulder Injury Clinic every Monday morning at Pacific Private Clinic to expedite the treatment of sports injuries which have occured over the week-end.
Injuries of the shoulder and upper limb are assesed at the clinic and if required an MRI scan can usually be performed the same day. The 3T MRI scanner used provides accurate diagnosis for all upper limb injuries often without the need for a painful "arthrogram" needle injection. 3T MRI Arthrography or MRA may be needed in the setting of anterior labral tears, SLAP tears, and partial-thickness supraspinatus tendon tears.
3T MRI scan provide superior image detail and are more sensitive than older 1.5T MRI images.
If surgery is required urgently it can be accommodated the same day or placed on an elective list later in the week.
